Pay it forward

A month or so ago (so late, sorry Kristin) I saw this amazing idea on the blog of illustrator Kristin G Jackson… and I decided to participate… will you join me? Here is what it’s all about:

“Pay it forward” is the idea that random acts of kindness are given without expecting anything in return. It’s passing on a kindness hoping that your recipients will do the same, and forming a never-ending chain of goodwill , that’s what this is about. But it isn’t only kindness, it is also a means to connect with our fellow crafters, to network, if you will, and to share our enjoyment of crafting/sewing instead of just keeping it to ourselves or where only friends and family get to see it.

Love this old pict... from my collection.

This is how it works:
You’ll have to comment on this post and the first three people who comment will receive a handmade gift from me within the next few months. But those three people will also have to post the idea on their blog (or Facebook for those of you who might like to participate but who don’t blog!) and commit to making a gift for the first three people who comment and so on and so forth.
SO, the first three people to comment here will get something handmade by me,  but you have to do this on your blog as well. I’ll be reading your blog to make sure that you have posted about your “Pay it Forward!”

Lastly, please send me your mailing address so I can surprise you or you choose some illo of mine you like and I’ll get it to you in the mail (if I still have it). You won’t know when it’s coming, but sometime in the next few months.

To the pleasure of sharing!

Am I the first comment? I only came on to comment that this is a fabulous idea and that with or without an invitation, I’m going to try this on my own blog! I’ve not done a lot of cut and paste lately – that didn’t involve a computer! ;) Ooh, I’m excited already! BTW, I think your images are beyond fabulous, they just hit me smack on the head with their presence – I’m glad I found your blog! :) Ok, enough rambling, I’m off to peruse some more of your art.

Hey Nancy, you ARE actually the first one!! So congrats (if you want to participate, of course!) Thank you for your nice words on my work… I really appreciate it! I will go check your website now!! … And I just did!! Wow your work is sooo lovely!! Always amazed at people drawing so well. I think I am an “ok” sketcher (to get my ideas understandable to clients) but I am always impressed to see people who use their drawing skills to illustrate, like you! Very feminine drawing… just lovely! Wish I could participate again on your site haha… but then I would have to post again and again on pay it forward and this would never end ;-) Anyway all that to say; I am really happy you participate! (If you do, of course, nooo pressure!) I will send you what ever you prefer… pendant or an illustration of your choice, printed and signed.

Third is welcome here! Real happy you are, Rubin! :) So the 3 of you have to let me know what you prefer… I am into soldering pendants with my illo in it… so it can be a pendant, or a signed print… or a knitted 8-bit portrait… no, kidding on the knitting, I do not knit!! So two options: pendant or signed print. Choose the illo you want… ho but first you have to post the Pay it forward on your blog. Do not forget to contact me via the Reach (me) section and give your address so I can send you the “gift”. Yeah!! Really happy it’s the 3 of you!!

Hmmmm…. now I just gotta think about what I can give away. All my illo’s are part of bound collections.

Maybe I’ll just draw something at request.

It’s a good idea Rubin. An original drawing has lot’s of value (in my book anyway!) I envy those 3 people who would get your artwork!! Sooo lucky.

Got the post on my blog now http://nancygronholm.blogspot.com/2011/04/pay-it-forward.html!
The reason it took so long (you’ll think I’m trying to flatter you but I’m dead serious!) is because I couldn’t decide on which SINGLE image I wanted. I had to let the mood settle. But I finally decided to go for Dip (half full, half empty) – however, if you find it to be an odd shape (square) for a pendant or have something already finished just lying around in a drawer somewhere, I’d be more than happy with that! :) mmm, I’ll be checking the mailbox every single day for the rest of the year if need be! ;)

  15. Posted April 1, 2011 at 4:46 pm | Permalink

Nancy, just checked on your blog!! Yeah!!! Thanks for participating! (and for the super nice comments on my work!!) Sure I will make you a pendant with the “Dip” illustration (half full half empty), not to worry about the shape, I can make it vertical in a minute or two… the organic contour you see on that illo was made so the art director could wrap text around in the magazine layout. So the original has more space all around and I can re-crop as I want. Will make a good print out of it and solder it just for you!! Do not forget to email me (by the contact me form) your snail mail address… I dont think you gave it to me yet. :) Happy weekend to you!!
