Finally did my 7th deadly sin illustration: Envy ! Strangely, it also fit’s this week theme for IF: Identical, since my idea for illustrating this sin involve two identical twins. One of them being rewarded with roses and love, the other one envious of all the attention toward her sister.
I have kept the carnival / circus style for all the seven sins, as I find it suits well this series of illustrations. Hope you like it.. and yes, I animated that one a bit, too! All the Seven Deadly Sins are completed, you can see them all here. Yeah!!

Voilà, finallement j’ai terminé mes 7 péchés capitaux avec celle -ci: l’envie ! Étrangement, elle fonctionne parfaitement avec le thème de cette semaine sur Illustration Friday: Identical / Identique, car mon idée part de cette drôle de relation entre ces soeurs jumelles, l’une recevant des roses et de l’amour de son prétendant… la seconde étant rose… d’envie et de jalousie.
J’ai voulu conserver cet aspect “carnaval” / cirque pour toute la série des 7 péchés capitaux. Je n’ai pas pu résister à animer un tout petit peu celle-ci, comme quelques autres de cette série. Vous pouvez les voir toutes une à la suite de l’autre en allant ICI. Enfin les 7 sont là! Hourra!

This is so like me: trying to do numerous challenge at the same time! haha… but these were all inspiring words/concepts. First of, for Illustration Friday: scattered. Definition: To cause to separate and go in different directions. Second of all: I must admit I miss doing the 7 deadly sins, so I did Pride. And thirdly… I felt it actually fitted very well the Collage Obsession Challenge of the week: Alter Egos. You see how torn I was, having to choose in between all these great subjects?? Only have so much time to illustrate in a week!! hehehe… so I hope you like my mix-match of challenges. Pride is a strange thing, personally I don’t think it’s such a bad sin… but then again maybe if those tentacles grabs you…it can be possible to loose yourself in the projection of this boosted pride alter ego.

C’est vraiment mon genre… faire plusieurs challenges en même temps!! Y avait juste trop de bons thèmes cette semaine intéressants Bref, voici mon illustration multi-thème: Pour Illustration Friday: scattered (dispersé, éparpillé), mais aussi parce que j’ennuyais des 7 péchés capitaux, j’ai fait l’orgueil. Et bon, sur Collage Obsession Challenge le thème de cette semaine est: Alter Egos. Y a quand même un petit lien ici… non? Bref, j’ai eu beaucoup de plaisir a faire cette illustration. J’ai gardé le style carnavalesque de mes autres “péchés”. Au fait, il y a une petite animation… ca passe vite, il faut être vigilent!!

When I was a kid, I had this music box with a ballerina that danced to the “Love story” song (you can hear it here) The ballerina got lost at one point but I kept my music box, with all the precious treasures in it… it’s actually the one in this illustration, except the mirror was a triangle, and I decided it would be really nice to replace it with an heart.
I am such a nostalgic, would you believe it still has all the things from my childhood in it: 3 old coins, an old stamp from France, a small pen, 2 very small rings, a tooth (!), a gold bracelet and numerous small charms. Ho and a ring made of a golden cigar paper (my favorite). I keep thinking how easy a child can be mesmerize by small treasures…. and ballerina’s … and music boxes. So this is my small animated illustration entry for this week’s theme for IF: mesmerizing. Hope you like it !

Par ou commencer? Qu’est ce qui est envoûtant? (C’est le thème d’Illustration Friday ). J’ai toujours été fascinée par ma toute première (et seule) boîte à musique. C’est celle qui est dans mon illustration, à la différence que j’ai changé le miroir pour un coeur. Et si vous voulez entendre la musique, c’est par ici! Avec les années, la ballerine s’est perdue… (elle s’est peut-être poussée avec un soldat, qui sait?) mais j’ai conservé tous mes petits trésors: 3 vieux sous, un vieux timbre de la France, un petit crayon, deux très petites bagues, une dent (!), un petit bracelet et de nombreuses breloques miniatures. Ho mais aussi une bague en “or” fait d’un bout de papier à cigar métallique! … bref, rien de plus envoûtant pour un enfant (ou un adulte nostalgique, comme moi) qu’une boîte à musique, une ballerine, de la musique et quelques trésors.

Here is another one for the Seven Deadly Sins - Sloth ! Strangely it also works pretty well with the Illustration Friday theme: Mysterious. I am trying to stick to a carnival feel for this deadly sins illustrations, so it’s a triple challenge for me. I figured… what could represent sloth more then a clown falling asleep while the show is going on.
Then came the idea of collaging his friend on the background, mad at him for being such a sloth. Of course the water bucket is a must whenever clowns are involve, right? So the mystery is probably… will he trow it?

Voici une autre illustration pour les septs péchés capitaux: La paresse. Merci à Rick de Collage obsession Challenge pour ce quatrième “péché”! J’aime beaucoup illustrer cette série, c’est tout un challenge car je fais mon (gros) possible pour faire du même coup le thème d’Illustration Friday, qui est mysterious / “mistère” cette semaine.
J’ai pensé qu’il serait rigolo d’illustrer ce péché par un clown trop paresseux qui s’est endormi juste avant le spectacle. Puis j’ai pensé faire son acolyte, un peu découragé, histoire de mettre un peu d’action. La question étant… est-ce qu’il va lui envoyer son seau d’eau à la figure? À suivre j’imagine … et de là arrive le mystère.

Ok so here is yet another of the deadly sins (yes, I WILL do the 7!! eventually). It was fun doing this one too… thanks to Rick from the Collage Obsession challenge again!! I really enjoy doing these. I must admit that this sin is not an easy one to illustrate… but then I figured that even in a circus/carnival, there could be someone very greedy (is he the manager? Maybe), someone who wants to keep it all to himself. 
At first I wanted to have him surrounded with money… but with the recent news about the stock market, I figured he would actually be a lot richer with gold!!! Is it me or it seems that greed is often seen when people have a LOT of money? Strangely I think that it’s people who have “just enough money” that are the most generous. Probably they experienced that the more you give, the more you receive. And they are also the ones that looks the happier. Additional note… had to animate this a bit so his golden tooth would stand out… hehehe.

Ok voici un autre péché capital: l’avarice (cupidité?)… mais oui j’ai bien l’intention de faire les sept péchés capitaux. Encore une fois j’ai beaucoup aimé faire celui-ci, je devrais remercier Rick de Collage Obsession Challenge car c’est lui qui a eu cette idée. Pas facile de trouver un concept pour ce péché là! Mais je me suis dit que même dans un cirque (ou un carnaval) on pourrait trouver quelqu’un d’avare. Peut-être est-il le gérant du cirque, qui sait. Au début je pensais l’entourer de billets… mais avec la déconfiture du marché boursier des derniers jours, je pense qu’il est plus riche entouré d’or!!
C’est juste moi ou il semble que plus les gens ont une grande richesse, plus ils sont avares? Étrangement il semble que ce soit les gens qui ont “juste assez d’argent” qui donnent le plus. J’imagine qu’ils ont comprit que le fait de donner a un effet boomerang, ca revient toujours, éventuellement. Ce sont aussi ceux qui ont l’air les plus heureux. PS petite addition de dernière minute… je me devais d’animer un peu cette illustration pour que sa dent en or soit plus “présente”.

I really liked doing that last quick animation last month (Asleep) so I decided to add a small animated feature to this one too. This illustration was done for yet another challenge call Collage Obsession, and this week theme is Vampire related. Really what I wanted to do was just make a lady vampire, place her in a very “portrait” like manner, and add elements that would generate a story by itself.
Something happened. She looks kind of mad, or sad. Maybe she is holding the skeleton head of her great love. Vampires too, dies, eventually. And the crow, maybe he is just her friend, maybe he is the one that brought the bad news. Maybe she is the one who commited the crime. Vampires are so unpredictable.
One way or the other, I would love to have your own story about this…so will wait for your comments!! Oh … just checked on the IF site… think I will submit it, since the theme for the week is “gesture”. Strangely it also fit the image… in my view anyway.

J’ai vraiment aimé animer une de mes illustrations le mois dernier (Asleep)… donc je récidive ce mois-ci avec ce collage digital. J’ai puisé l’idée de vampire par ce site que j’aime bien: Collage Obsession. C’étais le thème de la semaine et ca va chercher mon (petit) côté sombre. En partant je voulais simplement faire un genre de “portrait” d’une dame vampire. Et puis je me suis dit pourquoi pas ajouter des éléments pour qu’on sente bien qu’il s’est passé quelque chose. Quoi? Là est la question. Elle semble triste… ou un peu en colère, non? Est-ce la tête de son amoureux, sur ses genoux? Est-ce que le corbeau est un ami? Ou est-il simplement le messager de cette triste nouvelle? Votre interprétation est la bienvenue! Au fait, étrangement le thème de cette semaine sur IF est “gesture”, traduction: “faire un geste”. Ici le geste a été posé… on ne sait pas qui l’a fait, peut-être elle… les vampires sont si imprévisibles!

Lot’s of things going on in that illo… first of, I really wanted to make an animated gif for this week IF theme: Asleep. Also, I wanted to integrate some bunny into the collage… why? Well last week a cute rabbit decided to make our back yard his (or her?) home… he is adorable and so this is kind of a tribute to him (her?). Also you will see that the little girl/princess has the hairdo of Princess Leia (Yeah, Star-wars! Been there, seen it on the “big screen”, that’s how old I am!!) anyway… confession time: my mom use to make me these curl-up buns when I was about 4 years old… (yep, that was the 70′s, parents did have the right to do that, back then.) Anyway, hope you like this one!

Il s’en passe des choses dans cette illustration, pas vrai?… Bon, quelques explications: Pourquoi les lapins? La semaine dernière un très joli lapin a trouvé refuge dans notre cour arrière. C’est une joie que d’avoir ce visiteur… j’avais donc le goût de le représenter ici. Mais encore, pourquoi la chevelure de la fillette au look Princesse Léa (Star-wars)? L’heure de confession: ma mère me coiffait ainsi quand j’avais environ 4 ans. Hé oui, les années 70′s, tout était possible et permis! Et pourquoi la petite animation? J’expérimente avec les animations .gif depuis quelques temps. Voilà!
