The Photo Response Project / Le projet Réponse-Photo

4x6 response Icardinal1 The Photo Response Project / Le projet Réponse PhotoI decided to participate on two projects for the Art House Coop in NY… this one is call “The Photo Response Project”, where we had to “perform a visual translation” of a photo… so I digitally collaged what this particular photo inspired me.. and wrote a quick phrase..
If you want to see the original photo that inspired this illustration, here it is (no 5). Was a lot of fun to come up with an idea (well… first to pick a photo… that was quite difficult.. I had too many ideas!!… and then this one… really brought me back to my childhood… and the way I felt, the day I rang the doorbell on my best friend… for the first time.

Simple… and beautiful.

old photo cats1 Simple... and beautiful. No illustration today, just a photo I have on my wall. I have a couple of photographs there, drawings also, and vintage postcards too. But I have pinned there mostly stuff that makes me smile, or just makes me feel good. Lots of old circus posters (I find them just beautiful, with all the “old” colors and different acrobats) and some old photos I picked… some I have bought in huge batch, some, like this one, who I bought individually. This one, when I saw it on Ebay (not to name it), I smiled. And old photos rarely makes me smile.

I think it’s just the simplicity of it. I have seen a lot of old pictures,  often it’s the usual “portrait” of people (but that’s usually what we do, now days too, right? We want to “capture” that person, at that moment in time) But this one… was different. The subject, laughing on the background, looked naturally happy. Nobody told her to smile, she was just in the moment, watching the cat with the two small kitties drink the milk in the bowl. read more »

Pay it forward

A month or so ago (so late, sorry Kristin) I saw this amazing idea on the blog of illustrator Kristin G Jackson… and I decided to participate… will you join me? Here is what it’s all about:

“Pay it forward” is the idea that random acts of kindness are given without expecting anything in return. It’s passing on a kindness hoping that your recipients will do the same, and forming a never-ending chain of goodwill , that’s what this is about. But it isn’t only kindness, it is also a means to connect with our fellow crafters, to network, if you will, and to share our enjoyment of crafting/sewing instead of just keeping it to ourselves or where only friends and family get to see it.

Love this old pict... from my collection.

This is how it works:
You’ll have to comment on this post and the first three people who comment will receive a handmade gift from me within the next few months. But those three people will also have to post the idea on their blog (or Facebook for those of you who might like to participate but who don’t blog!) and commit to making a gift for the first three people who comment and so on and so forth.
SO, the first three people to comment here will get something handmade by me,  but you have to do this on your blog as well. I’ll be reading your blog to make sure that you have posted about your “Pay it Forward!”

Lastly, please send me your mailing address so I can surprise you or you choose some illo of mine you like and I’ll get it to you in the mail (if I still have it). You won’t know when it’s coming, but sometime in the next few months.

To the pleasure of sharing!

Dogs in a bar

Well the title says pretty much everything. There is something funny and strange about dogs dressed as human. Always reminds me of that famous Dog playing poker painting we all have in the back of our head… somewhere. I wanted to see if I could tell a story with 3 dogs in a bar. Also the theme for this week  Collage Obsession challenge is “Pet”.dog story Dogs in a bar

———–

8-bit pic

I am a nostalgic. I love these old 8-bit images and old games… I think Mario had a lot more style in 1985. So I made these 3 small portrait of myself  just for fun. Yes, I should probably start a new hobby.. knitting or something. As if I had time to do these… ho well, some knit and others create 8-bit pictures. ——

To sketch or not…

Ok so I am not really good at sketching…. here is the proof haha… just tried that very cool thing call Odosketch. Had nothing in mind while clicking on “sketch”. So here is what happened:

PS Notice the big eyes I made for the bunny girl… and then I was like “Yackkk, this is ugly!” made them small dots… looked cuter. So now you know why I am a digital collage artist! hehehe Also, in retrospect, what’s with the big signature?? What’s up with that?… ok anyway it’s too late. Done. Sent. Live with it. Made me think of Telnet and how we use to communicate “live” and saw when the other person was actually erasing and re-writing. It’s cool to see the process. Life.

Sending love to my agent…

illustrators For Hire AGM 300x300 Adjust Sending love to my agent...

Sometimes the people that are the closest to us, we tend to forget! But we shouldn’t!! Just want to post here a small tribute to my agent: Anna Goodson! She is now celebrating her 15th birthday (AGM, the agency-that is). And I feel always so privilege to be part of such an amazing team. She has been my rep for about 13 years now!!

It’s been a wild ride, she started very small and grew up to be that well known international agency that everyone now know (or must know! ) representing amazing illustrators from around the globe: Pablo, Andy Potts, Moira Millman, Laura Pérez, Violet Lemay, Mario Wagner… and the list goes on. So this is just a small tribute to a rep that keeps me busy with work (I don’t mind really)… a rep that is passionate about what she does (and that’s probably why she is so good at it)… a rep I really appreciate and love: Miss Anna Goodson!!

——–

Cheers Miss Goodson!
