Well I was late sending my Halloween cards (below) hehe so I had to be early doing my Christmas cards!! I figured the subject for this week theme on Illustration Friday was just perfect for it: Shy. I based my idea on one of the Holiday bookmark I had made for teachers last year… but gave it a twist, with this quote from Einstein (we all love him, right?) :
Learn from yesterday, live for today, hope for tomorrow. The important thing is not to stop questioning.

Bon… j’étais en retard pour envoyer mes cartes d’Halloween… maintenant je pense carte de Noël un peu à l’avance… j’ai pensé que le sujet pour Illustration Friday de cette semaine: Timide, serait parfait pour cette carte. Je me suis basé sur une illustration faite pour les signets de l’an passé pour les professeurs, avec un petit “twist” différent. Et quoi de mieux qu’une citation d’Albert Einstein ? On l’aime bien ce Einstein, pas vrai?
Apprenez d’hier, vivez aujourd’hui, gardez espoir pour demain. La chose importante est de ne pas cesser de s’interroger.

Just a fun (quick) illustration I did with the theme of the Collage Obsession Challenge of the week being Sepia + pastel color wheel. Also I added a card texture to the back as if it was a birthday card (would’nt that be cool as a real one? I think so too). And when it got finished I just had that “Show your true colors” pop into my mind, so I wrote it. I also got inspired by the (great) blog of Itkupilli, specially when I saw that she posted some of the pics she used to do her collage-art… what a cool idea!!
So the challenge was to use the pastel palette provided … and (as I understood it anyway hehe) the sepia tones. I decided to use the palette in the umbrella. I am posting (almost) all of the pictures I used. The main photo (girl with the umbrella) is from The Commons (Flickr)… all of them are public domain pics from my “old pics vault”. The skeleton bird is also public domain, and was found on Wiki.
Maybe it’s the fact that she is wearing a mask, or that she is actually aware that she is “different”, and loving it? Who knows… One thing is for sure, it was fun to collage this.

Une illustration fait rapidement pour le site Collage Obsession Challenge. J’ai aussi posté quelques unes des photos utilisées pour mon collage… inspiré par le blog de Itkupilli et je trouvais l’idée génial. La photo de base (la femme au parapluie) a été prise sur Flickr, dans la section “The Commons”, donc libre de droits. Toutes les autres sont de vieilles photos dans le domaine publique. Le squelette du petit oiseau arrive de Wiki… lui aussi est du domaine publique même si il a été re-travaillé et qu’il a maintenant une tête (!). Je trouve important de m’assurer de tout ca avant de faire mes collages digitales.
La phrase “Show your true colors” m’a semblé judicieuse pour cette image… je ne sais pas si c’est à cause du masque (style femme-chat) ou si c’est simplement que la fille semble tout à fait en paix avec ce qui l’entoure… mais bref, j’ai aimé faire ce collage digital.

Sometimes we look at people that are in the news, and we think: “How can someone destroy his life like this?” Without warning? Galliano, for those of you who do not know, is a very well known designer de la “haute couture”. He’s been noticed for his very theatrical clothing line on the runways. But these days he has been noticed for something totally different.
The video of Galliano is disturbing (to say the least). For sure the guy has problems. I think the video also shows something very sad: someone sinking at the bottom. Alone. But then again, who would want to have a friend who is that angry, that full of himself… and that drunk. Maybe money and stardom does not automatically bring happiness, real friendship and… respect. So I guess this warning reads: “Be ware of self-proclaimed kings.” Not only are they bad to others, but can also be amazingly bad to themselves.

Hallucinant d’assister à une telle auto-destruction. Si vous ne connaissez pas l’histoire des récents déboires du designer John Galliano, vous pouvez lire le tout ici…(dans “controverses”, sur Wiki).
Toujours étrange de voir une personne qui semble avoir tout (argent, réussite, etc) s’auto-détruire de la sorte. “Warning” était le mot de la semaine sur IF. Je me demande si quelqu’un, quelque part, à vu les signes qui disait que cet homme était au fond du baril. Il s’auto-proclamait roi. Un roi bien malheureux, seul et grincheux. Comme quoi l’argent et le “star système” ne rime pas nécéssairement avec bonheur, amitiés et… respect.
