At times some teens can look quite immovable
Here is my take on this week subject for IF … and I also wanted to share with you two other ideas I had in mind, and my sketch for the final I did. I am browsing a lot of great web site these days and I realized I really enjoy seeing the “process” behind the final illustration. So here are 2 other ideas and the one sketch (yep, no 3) that I liked the most. It’s a pretty interesting subject, because so many things can be seen as “immovable”. Time, space, elephants, huge rocks, slunk, porcupine…. or just a teen boy playing on his ipod touch for hours… and hours…. and…

Cette semaine le thème de IF est: immovable. Ce qui pourrait se traduire ainsi: Impossible à bouger. Et après plusieurs visites sur des sites d’illustrateurs qui exposait leurs esquisses… je me décide et je poste ici quelques idées. J’ai pensé à une tonne de trucs pour le sujet de cette semaine: le temps, l’espace, un éléphant, une méga gros rocher, une moufette, un porc-épic et finallement, pourquoi pas un ado assis sur son sofa avec son Ipod… il me semble que c’est difficile de trouver plus immobile … hehehe. Got to let them free. I know how it is, we are all a bit over protective. I have to keep reminding myself that my kid is growing up. One day he’ll fly on his own… but he has to learn, try, fall, try again. The cage is not a good idea, even if it is a golden one. Who like to feel caged? no one. Remember that, mom!! (talking to self) hehehe

On doit leur donner la liberté. Nous sommes tous un peu “mère-poule” avec nos enfants. Je suis probablement la reine! Bref, je dois me rappeler constamment (ou les autres le font avec joie) que mon kid grandit! Que ca ne sert à rien de vouloir le surprotéger… que ce n’est pas ainsi qu’il va apprendre à faire les choses seul. Il va devoir essayer, tomber, se relever, essayer à nouveau. Le mettre en cage ne l’aiderait surement pas, aussi dorée soit-elle. Qui aime être en cage? Personne. Souviens-toi de ca, Maman! (ici, je me parle… hihihi)

Soooo many ideas for this week’s topic on IF: artificial. And so little time!! But here it is. And here is also my version of a cat-robot. This is wishful thinking because I just loooove cats but I am just soooo allergic to them that it is impossible for us to get one. Sad, I know… but I bet I would do ok with that one. I bet he can roll on his back wheels too, probably quite fast. Have a great week!

Tellement d’idées pour le sujet de cette semaine sur IF: artificiel. Et trop peu de temps!! Mais bon la voici. Et j’ai même ajouté ma version d’un chat robot. J’aimerais beaucoup en avoir un comme celui-là… j’adooooore les chats et je suis trooooop allergique à eux. Je crois que celui-là serait parfait pour moi. En plus je lui ai installé des roues en arrière (c’est possible, c’est un robot)…histoire qu’il puisse aller très vite. Ciao et bonne semaine à tous!

She looked everywhere for that small toy porcelain tea set. When she finally found it, she ran outside, hopping for the tiny elf girl to still be in the (also small) tree.There she was. For the first time in her life, she felt like a giant.
These are just a few lines I wrote for the illustration I did for Illustration Friday of this week: Giant. I am in no way a writer so be kind with me. hehehe.
Elle chercha pendant très longtemps afin de trouver le petit service à thé fait en porcelaine. Quand elle le trouva enfin, elle couru à toute vitesse, espérant que la petite fée serait encore là, dans le très petit (lui aussi) arbre. Elle y était toujours. Pour la première fois de sa vie, elle se sentit grande… aussi grande qu’ un géant.
- Seulement quelques lignes écrites pour décrire l’illustration de cette semaine pour IF: géant. Je suis bien loin d’être habile au niveau écriture, alors soyez indulgents! hihihi.

Last week’s illustration theme for IF (yeah I am late, it is Friday already!) was Ripple. It has a special meaning because all the illustrations that were made for this week’s topic are about the oil spill in the gulf. 
So all the illustrations had to be 2.5 x 3.5 and are for sell… all profits (yes ALL) will be donated for two great causes (at 10.00$ each signed on the back) The Institute for Marine Mammal Studies or The International Bird Rescue Research Center . My idea behind the two illo’s: I feel really sad to see all these birds dying because of the oil spill… so I imagined a guy refusing to see the obvious (yeah, corporate kind) and the bird, well the bird doesn’t have a voice to cry and ask for help. They die in silence. So on the second illo I gave the bird a voice. I hope you will donate for this cause. Can be time, can be an artwork, can be money. Anything will help them.

En Français maintenant! Le sujet d’Illustration Friday de la semaine dernière… (ben oui je suis en retard…mais c’est pour une bonne cause) : “Ripple” : vous savez ces petits ronds qui apparaissent dans l’eau quand on lance une roche? Bon ben c’est ca le sujet. Si quelqu’un quelque part connait un mot en français qui peut remplacer cette longue phrase interminable, je vais le prendre. Bref… le sujet est en fait le désastre écologique qui perdure dans le golf du Mexique. Ainsi, chaque illustration sera vendue (10$ chaque) sur le site ripplesketches Ce sont de petites illustrations de 2.5″ x 3.5″ et les dons (chaque sous) seront remis a deux organismes : The Institute for Marine Mammal Studies or The International Bird Rescue Research Center .
Pour ce qui est des deux illustrations en question… l’idée était de donner une voix à ces oiseaux qui n’en ont pas. Svp donnez pour la cause, que ce soit en temps, en argent ou en illustrant. Les 2 illustrations suivantes seront imprimées sur un papier de bonne qualité, signées à l’endos et envoyées directement par moi.

Slither: To move or slide or cause to move or slide unsteadily, as on a slippery surface. I am kind of playing with words here. I just had to make this week subject (IF) about all the dramatic oil spill in in the gulf of Mexico. All these birds covered with oil makes me sad, and I admit it, a bit angry. I guess my illo says it all.

Cocoon
Just as I anticipated … lot’s of editorial jobs coming in this week. So not much time to make an original illo for Illustration Friday (do you hear the little guilt voice?) I decided to participate anyway… so this one was done a couple of years ago and I feel it fits the subject so well: cocoon. This illustration was done for my own pleasure, as a personal project. I wanted to illustrate someone really timid, in it’s shell. The good thing about being in a shell is that at one point the shell becomes too small and you have to just let go… so I guess it is also about growing up, knowing who you are and trusting your instinct.

Juste comme je l’anticipais… beaucoup de boulot pour la prochaine semaine au niveau des illustrations éditoriales. Alors pas beaucoup de temps pour illustrer le thème de cette semaine pour Illustration Friday (je me sent légèrement coupable mais ca va passer). Le sujet de cette semaine: Cocoon. J’ai donc décidé de participer malgré tout et j’ai trouvé cette illustration datant de quelques années. Je trouve qu’elle fonctionne parfaitement avec l’idée du “cocon”. Je voulais représenter quelqu’un de très timide, prise dans sa coquille. Ce qui est bien d’une telle coquille c’est qu’à un certain moment on ne peut plus y rester, on grandit, et après un certain temps on doit en sortir… se faire confiance et s’épanouir.

This week IF subject is Linked… and all I had in mind was this child game we use to play… you know, where you both have cups or metal cans that are linked with a small rope, so you can tell each other secrets? Ok now I may have been the only one playing this game as a child (well we should have been two…) And so I figured it would be pretty cool to see Alice (yes, the famous one), using this old game to talk with the white rabbit. This idea also incorporate a project I have been postponing for a while now: making pendants and broches and all kind of jewelry that would incorporate my illustrations in it. These two new friends (Alice and Mr. Rabbit) will soon be adapted and made into broches and will sell on my Etsy store.

Je récidive et me voici à nouveau avec le IF de la semaine : Linked (lié, lien, liaison, connecté…enfin bref vous comprenez le principe). Alors la seule chose que j’avais en tête, c’étais ce jeu fabriqué de deux verres ou cannages de métal et reliés par une corde… ça nous permettait de communiquer (pas très discrètement mais quand on est enfant, tout est différent). Alors j’ai pensé que ça serait chouette de voir Alice (oui la fameuse Alice du Pays des merveilles) utiliser ce petit jouet pour communiquer avec Mr. Lapin. Cette idée est aussi en parallèle avec un projet qui m’est cher et qui me trotte dans la tête depuis un petit bout: faire des broches et des pendantifs (quelques bijoux quoi) avec pour principal sujet mes illustrations. En fait, ce projet est déja en marche et vous trouverez ici même ces broches (les illos un peu modifiés bien-sur) et un lien de mon Etsy Store. Je dois juste trouver le temps… Mr. Lapin, j’ai besoin de votre aide.
