When I saw that this week’s challenge for the Collage Obsession challenge was: Albert Einstein, I was so very happy! I mean, that is probably the coolest (and only one I know, for that matter) scientist that ever lived! So I found a quote that I really loved … and put together this digital collage illustration. Je suis passé sur le site du Collage Obsession Challenge et … la belle surprise: mon scientifique favorit: le seul, l’unique Albert Einstein. Un scientifique cool, c’est rare, non? (mais j’avoue que je n’en connais pas beaucoup !) Et en cherchant un peu, j’ai trouvé une citation (il en a écrit plusieurs!) que j’aimais beaucoup et qui m’a inspiré cette illustration. J’espère que vous aimerez, et si oui.. ca tombe vraiment bien car j’en ai fait quelques fonds d’écran ! Oui oui, gratuit!! Juste pour le plaisir de partager ! I have been planning of explaining for a while how I work. I have been asked a lot lately… do you draw? Is it all digital? How do you proceed? Do you sketch a lot before going to final? So I will try to explain to you the process. By now you know I use a lot of old photos in my digital collages. I just love the general feel of these photos (what they call cabinet card). I have been collecting them for years now, so they are a big part of my collages. Still they rarely appear as the original, as I would pick 2 or 3 faces to make one. So where do I get all these pictures, you may ask? Well I have been doing digital collages for a long time so I have quite a big collection of Victorian era photos, some already scans, some in the process of being scanned. An important point I would like to make about photos… I am not a fan of people finding pictures online, because it surely belong to someone else (and you dont want to do that, unless you want to infringe on other’s copyrights and have some serious problems). However, it is possible to to find some pictures that are in the public domains online, still… better be safe then sorry so always try to find (be) your own source of images.
This is why I also like to take lots of pictures (hands, trees, grass, etc) anything that I would need to make a final image. I also browse into old books and very old magazines that I have here, that contains ancient prints of animals, objects and parts, put it all together digitally, add colors… and draw some elements that I cannot find anywhere. At this point it’s a matter of personal feeling and liking. Then I try to take a step back. Do something else and come back later.

Savor some wine… one of the best thing in life (for me anyway). Always love all those adjective to describe wine… pepper, almond, pear, vanilla, black cherry, chocolate, cinnamon, honey, toasted bread… ho la la!

Savourer… c’étais le thème pour cette semaine sur IF... et y a rien comme savourer un bon verre de vin (pour moi en tout cas). Et tous ces mots pour décrire les arômes du vin: poivre, amande, miel, mûres, vanille… et j’en passe. Bref ce n’est sûrement pas un hasard si vin rime avec divin.

There is something special about this week theme on IF (spooky). For a while now I have been thinking of doing my own Tarot cards… and somehow the subject was so close to one of the spookiest card of the Tarot: the Death card. It is not a surprise that the number of this card is the 13 (XIII). I am most familiar with le Tarot de Marseille, and they omit the name of the card, as it is said that “naming” a thing or a being would give “life” to it. But the “no name” card is not such a bad card to pick! It’s more about the death of a situation, so it is more about change, transition. So do not be afraid, boys and girls… mouhahahaha!!! Happy Halloween!!

Voici ma version du thème de cette semaine “Spooky”, sur IF. Et si il y a une carte du Tarot qui fait un p’tit peu peur, c’est bien celle de l’arcane sans nom (La Mort). Mais il faut savoir que cette arcane n’est vraiment pas aussi terrible qu’on pourrait le penser. En fait le Tarot de Marseille ne lui donne pas de nom car “nommer quelque chose ou quelqu’un” voulait dire lui “donner vie”. Mais piger cette carte n’est pas nécéssairement une mauvaise chose, puisqu’elle signifie plus la mort d’une situation, donc elle annonce un changement, une transition, voir même un renouveau. Hé voilà les petits amis… n’ayez pas peur… mouhahahaha!! Joyeux Halloween!!!

This week’s IF is dessert, with this quote that I like a lot:
“Life is uncertain. Eat dessert first.” ~ Ernestine Ulmer.
So like many of you I am really into Mad Men … so ok, had to put a Betty-type-of-girl-can-do-it-all-perfect-cupcake-you-name-it-Queen-of-the-house (wow that was something). Anyway the 1950′s and 60′s were also about the classic horror/monsters movies – Godzilla style. And TV, yep, it was all about television. So here is my vision of “dessert”. Hope you like it!

Cette semaine le thème pour IF est: Dessert. Hé oui… impossible de ne pas résister à ce thème. Voici donc ma vision de la chose… à la Mad Men. Si vous ne connaissez pas cette série, allez vite louer la saison 1 2 et 3 (la 4e est présentement en route). Ça se passe dans les années 50′ /60′, le monde de la pub, le rôle des hommes et des femmes dans le milieu du travail et à la maison, etc. Les costumes et les décors sont franchement hallucinants. Et il y a tout le “non-dit”. Bref j’adore. Mais ca m’a aussi fait penser aux films d’horreurs classiques de ces années là, Godzilla’s etc. Les débuts de la télé… grande fascination de l’époque. Voici donc ma vision de “dessert”. Esperont que vous aimerez!

At times some teens can look quite immovable
Here is my take on this week subject for IF … and I also wanted to share with you two other ideas I had in mind, and my sketch for the final I did. I am browsing a lot of great web site these days and I realized I really enjoy seeing the “process” behind the final illustration. So here are 2 other ideas and the one sketch (yep, no 3) that I liked the most. It’s a pretty interesting subject, because so many things can be seen as “immovable”. Time, space, elephants, huge rocks, slunk, porcupine…. or just a teen boy playing on his ipod touch for hours… and hours…. and…

Cette semaine le thème de IF est: immovable. Ce qui pourrait se traduire ainsi: Impossible à bouger. Et après plusieurs visites sur des sites d’illustrateurs qui exposait leurs esquisses… je me décide et je poste ici quelques idées. J’ai pensé à une tonne de trucs pour le sujet de cette semaine: le temps, l’espace, un éléphant, une méga gros rocher, une moufette, un porc-épic et finallement, pourquoi pas un ado assis sur son sofa avec son Ipod… il me semble que c’est difficile de trouver plus immobile … hehehe. Got to let them free. I know how it is, we are all a bit over protective. I have to keep reminding myself that my kid is growing up. One day he’ll fly on his own… but he has to learn, try, fall, try again. The cage is not a good idea, even if it is a golden one. Who like to feel caged? no one. Remember that, mom!! (talking to self) hehehe

On doit leur donner la liberté. Nous sommes tous un peu “mère-poule” avec nos enfants. Je suis probablement la reine! Bref, je dois me rappeler constamment (ou les autres le font avec joie) que mon kid grandit! Que ca ne sert à rien de vouloir le surprotéger… que ce n’est pas ainsi qu’il va apprendre à faire les choses seul. Il va devoir essayer, tomber, se relever, essayer à nouveau. Le mettre en cage ne l’aiderait surement pas, aussi dorée soit-elle. Qui aime être en cage? Personne. Souviens-toi de ca, Maman! (ici, je me parle… hihihi)

Soooo many ideas for this week’s topic on IF: artificial. And so little time!! But here it is. And here is also my version of a cat-robot. This is wishful thinking because I just loooove cats but I am just soooo allergic to them that it is impossible for us to get one. Sad, I know… but I bet I would do ok with that one. I bet he can roll on his back wheels too, probably quite fast. Have a great week!

Tellement d’idées pour le sujet de cette semaine sur IF: artificiel. Et trop peu de temps!! Mais bon la voici. Et j’ai même ajouté ma version d’un chat robot. J’aimerais beaucoup en avoir un comme celui-là… j’adooooore les chats et je suis trooooop allergique à eux. Je crois que celui-là serait parfait pour moi. En plus je lui ai installé des roues en arrière (c’est possible, c’est un robot)…histoire qu’il puisse aller très vite. Ciao et bonne semaine à tous!

She looked everywhere for that small toy porcelain tea set. When she finally found it, she ran outside, hopping for the tiny elf girl to still be in the (also small) tree.There she was. For the first time in her life, she felt like a giant.
These are just a few lines I wrote for the illustration I did for Illustration Friday of this week: Giant. I am in no way a writer so be kind with me. hehehe.
Elle chercha pendant très longtemps afin de trouver le petit service à thé fait en porcelaine. Quand elle le trouva enfin, elle couru à toute vitesse, espérant que la petite fée serait encore là, dans le très petit (lui aussi) arbre. Elle y était toujours. Pour la première fois de sa vie, elle se sentit grande… aussi grande qu’ un géant.
- Seulement quelques lignes écrites pour décrire l’illustration de cette semaine pour IF: géant. Je suis bien loin d’être habile au niveau écriture, alors soyez indulgents! hihihi.
